Libya, Lebanon, Italy, Oman: African migrants are the biggest victims of exploitative labour

From Southern Italy, where thousands of migrants workers toil for little or no pay, to Lebanon, where African migrants are subjected to gross inhumane treatment, migrants workers have always been the victims of labour exploitation from their 'new found lands.' According to a research by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, migrant workers are exploited across Europe.

From Africa, the victims are often lured into the illusion of greener pastures overseas with false promises of a better life. Most of the persuaders happen to be friends, family members, or through indirect networks with people involved in labour exploitation. From the conviction, they take the risk to go on a perilous journey through the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea to get across to Europe. Some die of hunger, some sink into the sea when boats capsize. Yet, anyone who manages to survive stands no chance of the promised better life.
