Saeed Al Yousef was secretly recorded beating *Hannah and saying “Now I will kill you not hit you. I swear to God I will cut your head. I’m not afraid of anyone. No embassy. No police.” She managed to escape from the balcony.

THE STORY
Hannah, a 25 year old Nigerian, arrived in Lebanon on 7 July 2019. In November 2020, she sent This is Lebanon audio evidence of her employer telling her she had 2 minutes to pack her bag and leave the house or he would hit her. She then asks for her $500 unpaid salary. His response was to tell her she is impolite for not trusting him and then he beats her. He is recorded saying,
“Now I will kill you not hit you. I swear to God I will cut your head. I’m not afraid of anyone. No embassy. No police.”
Hannah sent us pictures of bloody tissues from the beating to her ears. Hannah’s employers were Saeed Al Yousef and Sana Zeidan, an interior decorator. They reside in Sidon. When she showed Saeed the blood, he said,
“You don’t like our good treatment?”

The previous day, Hannah had asked for her salary and Saeed had told her he would pay her in Lebanese pounds, which he admitted would amount to less than half of her owed salary when converted to dollars. She replied, “If that is the case, what am I working for?” Sana told Hannah she needed to save the money to buy her own ticket as they couldn’t afford it. She told her it was a new rule that all girls buy their own tickets.
She had some advice for Hannah: “Go to Saudi Arabia. Go somewhere else. Not Lebanon.”

The beating Hannah had received was not an isolated occurrence. In her testimony to This is Lebanon she wrote, “Both wife and husband keep beating me each time I ask for my salary.” She said that she’d told them she’d wanted to go home but they had refused to let her go. They had reduced her salary from $200 per month to $100 and hadn’t paid her for 5 months.
After physically abusing her, Saeed locked Hannah into a room. She managed to jump from the balcony and escape. She ended up in a police station and because she had audio evidence, they notified an organization that provides support for victims of abuse, instead of returning her to her employers or agent. Hannah returned to Nigeria the following month. Her employers paid part of the salary she was owed in Lira. She returned home $260 short.
Hannah said her employers used to travel abroad and leave their 3 children aged four, three and one, in her care. She said, “There was no resting hour. I worked like a slave. Sana didn't assist me with the house work and the kids.
“She said she brought me to her home so she could sit and relax like a queen.” - Hannah
When we asked Hannah if she would like us to share her story, she said,
“It is very important to get people informed that they shouldn't allow domestic workers to work for this family again because he's a killer. He was ready to kill me.”

وصلت هانا، النيجيرية البالغة من العمر 25 عاماً، إلى لبنان في 7 تموز 2019. وفي تشرين الثاني 2020، أرسلت الى جمعية "هذا لبنان" دليلاً صوتياً مزعجاً للغاية يوضح فيه لها صاحب العمل أن أمامها دقيقتين لتحزم حقيبتها وتغادر المنزل وإلا سيضربها. ثم طلبت راتبها غير المدفوع وقيمته 500 دولار. فكان رده بأن يصفها بغير المهذبة لأنها لا تثق به، ثم يقوم بضربها. تم تسجيل قوله لها:
"الآن سأقتلك ولن أكتفي بضربك. أقسم بالله إني سأقطع رأسك. لست أخاف أحداً. لا سفارة. ولا شرطة"
لقد أرسلت هانا لنا صوراً لمناديل مدماة نتيجة الضرب على أذنيها. حين بيّنت الدم لسعيد، قال:
"أنت لا تحبين معاملتنا الجيدة؟"

في اليوم السابق، طلبت هانا راتبها فأخبرها سعيد بأنه سيدفع لها بالليرة اللبنانية، والذي سيكون أقل من نصف راتبها عند تحويله إلى الدولار، كما اعترف لها. فأجابت عن حق: "إذا كان الأمر كذلك فما الذي أعمل لأجله؟" قالت سناء ل هانا أنها يجب أن توفر المال لشراء تذكرتها بنفسها لأنهم ليسوا قادرين على شرائها لها. وأخبرتها بأن هناك قاعدة جديدة، وهي أن تشتري جميع الفتيات تذاكرهن بأنفسهن.
وقدمت ل هانا نصيحة: "اذهبي إلى السعودية. اذهبي إلى مكان آخر. وليس لبنان."

لم يكن الضرب الذي تعرضت له هانا حدثاً فردياً. كتبت في شهادتها الى جمعية "هذا لبنان": "إن الزوجة والزوج يضرباني في كل مرة أطلب راتبي". قالت بأنها أخبرتهم برغبتها في العودة إلى وطنها، لكنهم رفضوا السماح لها بالمغادرة. لقد خفّضوا راتبها من 200 دولار شهرياً إلى 100 دولار، ولم يدفعوا لها لمدة 5 أشهر.
بعد تعنيفها جسديا، قام سعيد بحبس هانا في غرفة، تمكنت من القفز من الشرفة والهرب. انتهى بها الأمر في مركز للشرطة ولأن لديها دليلاً صوتياً، أبلغوا منظمة تعنى بتقديم دعم لضحايا العنف الجسدي بدلاً من إعادتها إلى أصحاب العمل أو الوكيل. عادت هانا إلى نيجيريا في الشهر التالي. ودفع أصحاب عملها جزءاً من الراتب المستحق لها بالليرة اللبنانية. عادت إلى بلدها وهم مدينون لها بمبلغ 260 دولاراً.
قالت هانا بأن أصحاب العمل كانوا يسافرون إلى الخارج ويتركون أطفالهم الثلاثة الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين الرابعة والثالثة والسنة في رعايتها. وقالت: "لم يكن هناك وقت للراحة. كنت أعمل كالعبيد. لم تساعدني سناء في أعمال المنزل ورعاية الأطفال.
"لقد قالت أنها أحضرتني إلى منزلها حتى تتمكن من الجلوس والاسترخاء مثل الملكة."
عندما سألنا هانا إن كانت تريد منا أن نشارك قصتها، قالت:
"من المهم جداً إعلام الناس بأنه لا ينبغي السماح لعاملات المنازل بالعمل لدى هذه العائلة مرة أخرى لأنه قاتل. كان مستعداً لقتلي."
