THE STORY
On 17 December, 2019, Filiino worker Merly Dimot contacted This is Lebanon via Facebook asking for help in very broken English. She said that she hadn’t received her salary for over nine months, and was owed $2800 by her employer, Liliane Dennaway Elia. On her Facebook profile, tv presenter Elia claims to live between Sydney and Beirut.
Merly’s messge to us (English edited) read:
“Hi. Please help me. My name is Merly Literal Dimot, 27 years old, married, from the Philippines. I arrived in Lebanon on 14 June, 2017. I live in Sabtiyeh 4-01, building 440, 4th floor. My madam is Liliane Dennawy Elia, phone +9613080300. My salary is $300 per month. Please help me because she hasn’t given me my salary for 9+ months and my mother is sick. She owes me $2800.
In November 2019 I asked her to send two months’ salary but she said the banks were closed. My daughter needs her baptismal paper in the school so I need to go home to the Philippines.
I finished my contract in September, 2019 but my madam captured my phone and she didn’t give me my money so I had to sign for another year because I have no agent. My madam is very crazy. Please help me to go home to the Philippines.”

On 24 December we messaged Merly. She didn’t reply. On 31 December we messaged her again. Again, no reply. On 6 January we messaged a third time. Still no reply. Feeling extremely worried, we contacted her employer, Liliane Dannawy Elia, on 14 January, 2020, asking how we could contact Merly. Her response: “Call the police. She stole money and gold and ran away. I know nothing about her. I need my money and gold back.” When we asked her what date Merly ran away, she replied:

Where is Merly now? Is she languishing in a Lebanese prison? Sitting in some prison cell? Is she still inside Liliane’s house? Will Merly ever get her unpaid salary and will Liliane ever stand trial?

Liliane posted on Facebook: انتبهوا في عصابة بلبنان عم يساعدو الnannies يهربو .. وعم استلم رسائل إستفزاز طلب مصاري بحجة الفيلبينية يلي ساعدوها تهرب من عندي وانا خارج البلد والله يستر ما يكونو خطفوها وكم مرة فاتو عا بيتي يلي هوي مفروض يكون أمانة الله يستر شو بعد رح يصدمني بس ارجع عالبيت ..انا عم بعمل block دغري لهالارقام وفي محضر للبنت عند الدرك تا نشوف وينا وصار عندون علم بأرقام الإنترنت يلي عم يستعملووا .. يلي بيعرف عنا شي يعلمني انا مسامحتا بكل شي المهم تكون بخير ..كنت عاطيتا تلفونين رقمي الخاص ورقما احترنا كيف لازم نكون اذا كتير مناح كارثة واذا لا مش انا
Translation: "Be careful. There is a gang in Lebanon helping nannies to escape. I'm receiving provocative messages, requests for money for the Filipino who they helped escape from me while I'm outside the country. God protect me. Maybe they kidnapped her. God knows how many times they entered my house which is supposed to be safe. God knows what I'll find when I get home. I immediately blocked the numbers and there's a lawsuit against the girl at the police to see where she is, and they now know the internet numbers they are using. Whoever knows anything please tell me. I forgive her for everything. What is important is that she's ok. I had given her two phones, my private number and her number. One wonders what to do. If we are very good, it is a disaster; but I can't be otherwise."
So the abuser is painting herself as the victim. We now know from Merly's family that she has taken shelter in the embassy where she ran directly after escaping Liliane's house.

Liliane, a television presenter on the first Arab Christian station, spends her home life depriving Merly Dimot, a Filipino mother, of her right to see her child, her salary to provide for her child, and takes her phone depriving her of contact with her child. Now she is making false accusations that Merly has stolen from her. Will Liliane also send this mother to jail for years? She is a self-proclaimed charitable worker for a children's foundation, but her compassion does not extend to the child of her Filipino worker.

احتجزت ليليان إيليا رواتب 9 أشهر ل ميرلي ديموت ، وعندما هربت ميرلي اتهمتها بسرقة الذهب والمال والملابس.
في 17 كانون الأول (ديسمبر) 2019 ، اتصلت العاملة الفيليبينة ، ميرلي ديموت ، بـصفحة "هذا لبنان" عبر فيسبوك لطلب المساعدة بلغة إنجليزية ضعيفة جداً. قالت إنها لم تتلق راتبها منذ أكثر من تسعة أشهر ، وبلغت قيمة مستحقاتها 2800 دولار من صاحبة العمل ليليان ضناوي إيليا. في ملفها الشخصي على فيسبوك ، تدعي مقدمة البرامج التلفزيونية ليليان أنها تعيش بين سيدني وبيروت.

"مرحبا. ساعدوني من فضلكم. اسمي ميرلي ليتيرال ديموت ، 27 سنة ، متزوجة ، من الفلبين. وصلت إلى لبنان في 14 يونيو ، 2017. أعيش في سبتية 4-01 ، المبنى 440 ، الطابق الرابع. سيدتي هي ليليان ضناوي إيليا ، هاتف 9613080300+. راتبي 300 دولار في الشهر. الرجاء مساعدتي لأنها لم تعطيني راتبي لمدة تزيد عن 9 أشهر وأمي مريضة. هي مدينة لي ب 2800 دولار."
"في نوفمبر 2019 طلبت منها أن ترسل راتب شهرين لكنها قالت إن البنوك مغلقة. ابنتي بحاجة إلى ورقة المعمودية في المدرسة لذلك أنا بحاجة إلى العودة إلى بلدي الفلبين."
لقد أنهيت عقدي في سبتمبر عام 2019 ، لكن سيدتي استولت على هاتفي ولم تعطيني أموالي لذا اضطررت للتوقيع لمدة عام آخر لأنه ليس لديّ وكيل. سيدتي مجنونة جداً. الرجاء مساعدتي في العودة إلى الفلبين ".

في 24 كانون الأول (ديسمبر) بعثنا برسائل ل ميرلي. لم ترد. في 31 ديسمبر أرسلنا لها رسالة ثانية. مرة أخرى ، لا رد. في 6 يناير أرسلنا رسالة ثالثة. لا رد أيضاً. بعد أن شعرنا بقلق بالغ ، اتصلنا بصاحبة عملها ، ليليان ضناوي إيليا ، في 14 كانون الثاني (يناير) 2020 ، وسألناها كيف يمكننا الاتصال بميرلي. ردها: "اتصلوا بالشرطة. سرقت المال والذهب وهربت. لا اعرف عنها شيئاً. أنا بحاجة لإستعادة أموالي والذهب. "وعندما سألناها عن تاريخ هروب ميرلي ، أجابت:
ليليان: خذوها إلى الشرطة و ستتصل بي الشرطة. عفواً لا أرد على أناس لا أعرفهم. من أنتم. يجب أن أحظر هذا الرقم.
هذا لبنان: افعلي هذا و سننشر عنك.
ليليان: أرفع عليكم دعوى في المحكمة.
هذا لبنان: نسألك فقط متى هربت.
ليليان: لا يهمني.
هذا لبنان: لماذا موقفك دفاعي جداً.
ليليان: أرسلوا لي إسمكم الكامل و رقمكم. ربما ساعدتم بالسرقة و الهرب. أنا مسافرة بالخارج. إتصلوا بالشرطة لتعرفوا. علي العودة لمعرفة ما سرقت من ثيابي أيضاً. كفّوا عن إرسال الرسائل. سأتصل بالمخابرات و أبلغ عن هذا الرقم الآن.
أين هي ميرلي الآن؟ هل تقبع في سجن لبناني؟ يجلس في بعض زنزانات السجن؟ هل ما زالت داخل منزل ليليان؟ هل ستحصل ميرلي على راتبها غير المدفوع ، وستحاكم ليليان؟

ليليان ، مذيعة تلفزيونية في أول محطة عربية مسيحية ، تقضي حياتها المنزلية وهي تحرم ميرلي ديموت ، وهي أم فلبينية ، من حقها في رؤية طفلتها ، وراتبها في إعالة طفلتها ، وتأخذ هاتفها و تحرمها من الاتصال بطفلتها. وهي الآن تتهم ميرلي اتهامات كاذبة بأنها سرقت. هل سترسل ليليان هذه الأم إلى السجن لسنوات؟ هي تقول عن نفسها أنها ناشطة بالأعمال خيرية لصالح مؤسسة للأطفال ، لكن تعاطفها لا يمتد إلى طفلة العاملة الفلبينية.
