Adel had written a note which he told Rachel to sign: it discharged him from his financial responsibility and claimed that she agreed on a sum of 900 thousand Lebanese pounds, worth $80. She signed because he was pointing a gun at her, then he dropped her by the road side.

On 9 March 2021, This Is Lebanon wrote to Adel. We gave a link to the video recording of his abuse of Rachel. We told him that our goal was not to post it, but to have him pay Rachel the salary that he owed her. We added that we were willing to pay for her ticket home, and that the embassy was working on her exit papers. We urged him to pay his debt to her. If he did so, we promised not to post, and he would have saved his reputation. We informed him that many employers choose to settle their debts and avoid disgrace, and asked him how he would like to move forward.

There was no response from Adel. At the end of March, tired of waiting, Rachel borrowed money to buy her own ticket back to Nigeria. She returned penniless and in debt.
